WAUSAU, Wis. (WSAW) - Yee Leng Xiong announced Wednesday he will run for the office of state treasurer.

Xiong currently serves as a Marathon County Board Supervisor and DC Everest School Board Treasurer. He is also the executive of a local non-profit.

“Most people don’t know what the State Treasurer does — and that’s exactly the problem,” said Xiong. “This office isn’t ceremonial. It’s a responsibility. The Treasurer helps oversee Wisconsin’s school trust funds, supports low-interest loans that help communities build infrastructure, and works to return unclaimed money to families. Wisconsin deserves a Treasurer who has actually managed public budgets and understands how every dollar affects real people.”

The Democratic primary election for Wisconsin State Treasurer will be held on August 11, 2026, with the general election on November 3, 2026.
