POLICE SAY THE SHOOTING HAPPENED RIGHT AROUND MIDNIGHT SATURDAY. JUVENILES AND ADULTS WERE REPORTEDLY INJURED. OFFICERS SAY SHELL CASINGS WERE FOUND THROUGHOUT THE MULTILEVEL HOME. AUTHORITIES NOW WORKING TO IDENTIFY THE PERSON OR PEOPLE RESPONSIBLE. THERE WERE CARS PARKED UP AND DOWN TOP OF THE HILL, DRIVE. YOU CAN SEE IMPRESSIONS ON THE SIDE OF THE ROAD WHERE CARS HAD PARKED. Police near Akron are investigating a shooting that left nine people injured.According to Cleveland NBC affiliate WKYC, the shooting occurred early Sunday morning at an Airbnb rental home in Bath Township, which is northwest of Akron and borders Cuyahoga Valley National Park.Officers were dispatched to a report of a shooting at the residence at 12:16 a.m. at a home on the 900 block of Top of the Hill Drive.A birthday party was reportedly being held at the residence, with large crowds in attendance. Police say that the gunfire erupted on the first floor of the home, striking multiple people. The suspect or suspects then fled the scene.A mix of both adults and juveniles were injured in the shooting and transferred to area hospitals. The extent of the victims' injuries remains unknown, with no fatalities reported by police.Akron Mayor Shammas Malik said that Akron first responders were among those who were called to the scene. Malik called the shooting "very concerning," as well as part of a broader issue."The reports of so many young people at a rented house party are very concerning," Malik said in a statement on social media Sunday morning. "As we learn more about the situation that occurred last night, it appears to be part of a broader issue - helping make sure youth across our community are safe."He added, "The City of Akron is committed to continuing our work alongside parents, youth-serving nonprofits and our broader community. Today, my heart is with the victims of this shooting and their families, those who witnessed this incident, and those safety forces who responded to it."Meanwhile, Bath Township police Chief Vito Sinopoli said on Sunday that the scene that his officers responded to was "chaotic," and condemned the outbreak of violence at the party."Our deepest sympathy goes out to the victims, families, and all those affected by this devastating incident," Sinopoli said. "This kind of violence is unacceptable in our community, and we're committed to applying all available resources to this investigation."Authorities are asking those with information about the shooting to contact the Bath Township Police Department at 330-666-3736.
