FC Cincinnati's Roman Celentano wins 2025 MLS Save of the Year for sequence against Nashville SC
For the second time in three seasons, FC Cincinnati goalkeeper Roman Celentano has won Save of the Year.
The save in question happened on March 29 at Nashville.
In a 1-1 game, Celentano and the Cincinnati defense were under siege. After an unsuccessful Nashville corner kick, NSC refused to let the pressure up.
Re-setting just beyond the penalty box, Celentano made a point-blank save on Alex Muyl. While still on the ground, he immediately ranged to his right to deny Sam Surridge. The ball stayed live until it found the Cincinnati keeper's hands again, ending the threat.
The sequence of saves kept the score level, where the two teams remained until Kevin Denkey put home a penalty kick in added time, giving The FC a 2-1 victory.
Celentano also brought home Save of the Year honors in 2023, for his attacking save on Columbus' Steven Moreira in an eventual 3-2 Hell is Real win.
After missing time due to an injury sustained while in U.S. Men's National Team Camp, the Indiana University product has posted consecutive clean sheets in his return between the posts for FC Cincinnati.
On Decision Day, Celentano made three saves in a 3-0 win over CF Montreal. Monday night, in the opening game of Cincinnati's first round series against Columbus, he was again credited with three saves in a 1-0 win over the Crew.
Since joining FCC in 2022, he's recorded a 33 clean sheets in MLS play.
Celentano is signed with the Orange and Blue through the 2027 season.
