ORGANIZATION’S STAFF. AND WITH JUST FIVE DAYS TO GO BEFORE ELECTION DAY, EFFORTS ARE UNDERWAY TO MAKE SURE THE MACHINES THAT COUNT VOTES ARE WORKING THE WAY THEY’RE SUPPOSED TO. THAT’S RIGHT. WLWT NEWS FIVE’S TODD TODD -- SPENT TODAY AT HAMILTON COUNTY’S BOARD OF ELECTIONS, WHERE TEST BALLOTS WERE PUT UNDER THE MICROSCOPE. WELL, IN ADDITION TO MAKING SURE THAT EARLY IN-PERSON VOTING RUNS SMOOTHLY, BIPARTISAN ELECTION WORKERS LIKE YOU SEE HERE ARE COUNTING BALLOTS BOTH ELECTRONICALLY AND BY HAND, TO MAKE SURE EVERYONE’S VOTE IS COUNTED CORRECTLY. MARKING AND SCANNING BALLOTS AND DOUBLE CHECKING THEM FOR ACCURACY BEFORE ELECTION DAY IS A PRIORITY FOR THE PEOPLE WHO RUN ELECTIONS IN HAMILTON COUNTY. THIS IS AN ODD YEAR ELECTION. THERE’S A LOT OF CONTESTS AND A LOT OF CANDIDATES ON THE BALLOT THROUGHOUT THE COUNTY. BOARD OF ELECTIONS DIRECTOR SHERRIE POLAND SAYS THAT MEANS TESTING MORE THAN 450 DIFFERENT BALLOTS. I KNOW AS VOTERS, WE TEND TO JUST ONLY ONLY THINK ABOUT OUR JURISDICTION AND OUR BALLOTS. BY WAY OF EXAMPLE. POLAND SAID BECAUSE OF WHERE SHE LIVES, SHE’S VOTING ON RACES IN CINCINNATI, WHICH IS DIFFERENT THAN THE BALLOT OF VOTER IN GREEN TOWNSHIP. WE’LL SEE. GREEN TOWNSHIP IS VOTING FOR TRUSTEES. I’M VOTING FOR COUNCIL MEMBERS. MAYOR. SO YEAH, EACH BALLOT, DEPENDING ON YOUR JURISDICTION IS DIFFERENT. AND WE NEED TO MAKE SURE WE’RE TESTING ALL OPTIONS. TODAY’S DISPLAY OF WHAT’S CALLED LOGIC AND ACCURACY TESTING IS DESIGNED TO HELP VOTERS BE CONFIDENT IN WHATEVER THE OUTCOMES ARE. WHEN THE POLLS CLOSE ON TUESDAY NIGHT. THIS IS NOT THE FIRST SUCH TEST, WHICH IS IMPORTANT TO NOTE, SINCE MORE THAN 11,000 PEOPLE HAVE ALREADY CAST THEIR BALLOT BY GOING THE EARLY IN-PERSON VOTING ROUTE. THIS TEST IS JUST ONE STEP IN A SERIES OF LOGIC AND ACCURACY TESTING THAT IS CONDUCTED THROUGHOUT THE ELECTION CYCLE. NOW, EARLY IN-PERSON VOTING HERE AT THE BOARD OF ELECTIONS COMPLEX IN NORWOOD REMAINS AN OPTION TOMORROW. THE SAME GOES FOR SATURDAY AND SUNDAY. MONDAY, THINGS WILL BE QUIET BEFORE THE POLLS OPEN ON TUESDAY MORNING AT 630, MARKING THE START OF ELECTION DAY. TODD -- WLWT NEWS FIVE. Tuesday is election day in Ohio.Dozens of races are on the ballot in several counties across the region. The most notable being the race for Cincinnati mayor and Cincinnati City Council.There are high stakes in this election.Mayor Aftab Pureval is trying to get re-elected as controversy erupts over the city placing its police chief on leave. Republican candidate Cory Bowman is trying to unseat Pureval.There are 20+ candidates running for Cincinnati City Council.Ohio Secretary of State Frank LaRose released the latest early voting data for the election.“From voter registration information to absentee and early voting data, Ohio continues to set the standard for election transparency,” said Secretary LaRose. “For Ohioans planning to cast their ballot on Election Day, visit VoteOhio.gov to view your sample ballot or confirm your polling location, and remember to bring your photo ID and a smile.”According to the data on the state's elections website, 136,867 voted absentee, 263,051 voted in person, bringing a total number of ballots to 399,918.The overall ballot return rate for this year's November election is 72 percent.Those 65 years and older made up the most ballots requested and returned. Among the age group, 240,000 ballots were returned. Those 18 years to 24 years old made up about 10,000 ballots returned.By party, state data shows 147,000 Republican voters returned ballots in the election and 140,000 Democratic voters returned ballots.

Tuesday is election day in Ohio.
