Biography
Birth and Parents
- Ellen la Zouche, eldest daughter and co-heiress of Alan la Zouche, Knt., and Eleanor de Segrave, was born about 1288 (aged 26 in 1314).[1]
- About 1313/4, Ellen inherited from her father the manors of Black Torrington, King's Nympton and North Molton in Devon and half of the manor of Great Gaddesden in Hertfordshire.[1]
Marriages and Children
- Ellen married first before 1314, as his second wife, Nicholas de Seymour (or Saint Maur), Knt., son and heir of Laurence de Seymour by his first wife, Emme.[1] Nicholas had two children by his first wife, Eve ____: Sir Thomas and Beatrice, wife of Sir John de Worth.[1]
- Ellen and Nicholas had three sons:
- Sir Nicholas de Seymour, 1st Lord Seymour, died 8 November 1316.[1]
- Ellen married second, before 26 November 1318, to Alan de Cherleton, Knt., of Apley, etc., Shropshire, younger son of Robert de Cherleton.[1] They had three sons and one daughter:
Death
- Ellen la Zouche died about 1345 and her husband, Sir Alan de Cherleton, died 3 December 1360.[1]
