Research Notes
DNA testing (see below) has brought up some interesting questions. It is hoped that through DNA testing I can discover my parents' MRCA (see below).
DNA Information
A DNA test at Ancestry (updated Jul 2024) showed the following ethnicity estimate:
- Norway 60%
- Scotland 12%
- England & Northwestern Europe 11%
- Finland 9%
- Sweden 6%
- Netherlands 2%
At 23andMe the ethnicity estimate was as follows (updated 3 Oct 2025):
- Norwegian 50.3%
- Finnish 7.0%
- Swedish 3.7%
- English 34.9%
- Scottish 0.5%
- Austrian and Southern German 1.9%
- French 1.0%
- Swiss, Southwestern German & Western Austrian 0.4%
- Belarusian, Polish & Ukrainian 0.3%
Both of my parents also took a DNA test from 23andMe and received an interesting result. Each showed up as a DNA match for distant cousins on the other's DNA relatives. [14]

Acknowledgements
My mother, Verla (Blakey) Williams, began researching our family history as early as 1975, and created the initial database now found at Williams Family Pages on her IBM personal computer using Family Roots software. She also compiled family booklets that are now preserved on the blogs listed above. For over 30 years she worked diligently on this labor of love. Since 2009 it has been my honor and pleasure to continue her work to ensure that it is available on the internet for any family members searching for their ancestors.
Missy Berryann for her mentoring and for help and suggestions in preparing for the Pre-1500 badge.
Kari Undbekken (7C1R) for assistance on the Husmo family and breaking through the brick wall for Andreas Eriksen Sann.
Digital afterlife
In the knowledge that we are all mortal, I hereby request that upon my death, all of my managed profiles of deceased persons including my own profile should be set to full open status. (Please add my year of death.) I would welcome any relative to then become profile manager and continue this labor of love which was started so many decades ago.

.Started out yesterday at 2554 and adopted a passel in the last 24 hrs - adopted them since they were orphans and were descendants of Martha Denny who married James Howell wayyyy back when ...😋
.Probably adopted them for the same reason many people adopt stray puppies or kittens🤣
.Anyway, my Thank You to you for your Thank You. (I find it hard to comprehend 700,00+ - going to have to adjust my mental image of myelf)

Congratulations on certifying to work on pre-1700 profiles! It’s very important to read and understand the Pre-1700 Profiles page. These profiles for deep ancestors are shared by many, and collaborating on them works best if we all follow the guidelines in the certification quiz.
Primary sources should always be added to pre-1700 profiles at the time they are created. If you don't have a source for a pre-1700 profile, it would be best to ask for help in the G2G forum before creating the profile.
