- Jane Doreen Vorhes, 71, passed away May 27, 2015 in Napa. Jane was born June 9, 1943 in Oakland, CA.
- In 1951, her father secured a job at Mare Island Naval Shipyard as a welder. The family moved to a country home in the Hagen Road area. Country living was very exciting to Jane and her older brother Bob. There were gardens, trees, barriers and alfalfa fields to plant and tend. They had a cow that was milked twice a day with the milk//cream being sold for extra income. Jane had a great fondness for horses. At age eleven, her dreams of having a horse were answered when she purchased a Morgan//Hackney mare with money she earned picking prunes. The mare loved parades where she would prance and dance for the crowds. She continued to raise, break and train horses throughout her adult life.
- Jane attended Mt. George Elementary School in the Coombsville area. She graduated from Napa High School in 1961 and continued her studies at Napa College. Jane was employed at Queen of The Valley Hospital as the Administrative Assistant to the V.P. of Human Resources. She retired after 20 years to care for her ailing parents.
- Jane and her husband Dave celebrated 50 happy years of marriage in March 2013. The past several years Jane suffered from many health problems. She wanted to acknowledge the excellent care she received from her Queen of the Valley Hospital home care nurses, the nurses and technicians at the DaVita Dialysis Center, her doctors there (Hobbs, Gunnell and Chiu), and Dr. Leland Raymond and staff at the Queen of the Valley Hospital Wound Care Center. And a special thanks to her good friend and caregiver Roselyn Metzza.
- She was predeceased by her parents Russell and Dorina Van Wormer and son Dwayne.
- She is survived by her loving husband David, brother Robert Van Wormer, granddaughter Alicia Vorhes and Jessica Steele.
- A memorial service to celebrate her life will be held on Wednesday, June, 10 at 11:00 a.m. at Tulocay Mortuary. Donations in her name may be made to the National Kidney Foundation, Northern California branch, 131 Steuart Street, Suite 425, San Francisco, CA 94105.
