Biography
Fran was born in 1934. She was the oldest child of Marcus and Pauline Van Hooser. She met her future husband, G.W. Allison, in the summer of 1949. He had gone north to Michigan to work after his first year at Harding College. They met at Keego Harbor Church of Christ. By the end of the year, they had married. They traveled to Kentucky because Fran was only 15 at the time. The marriage license was obtained in Ballard County. Pauline had to travel with them to get the license. The marriage was performed by a Church of Christ minister in neighboring Graves County. Their first child was born 11 months later.
Despite dropping out of High School to marry and start a family, she went on to finish High School by correspondence. Next, she obtained a Bachelor's degree in History from Arkansas State University in 1974. Shortly after, she had a Master's degree and began her career as a teacher and guidance counselor. From 1983 to retirement, she worked at the public schools in Bay, Arkansas.
She learned how to drive in her twenties and obtained her first driver's license around age 25. She had a large music collection of tapes and vinyl. Fran was also a genealogist, spending many hours at her computer working on the family tree. She passed away in 2022.
