Possible Profiles for Deletion & Inactive Profile Managers

The Profile Improvement Project (PIP) Unknowns Team was created to work with profiles with the last name "Unknown" and equivalent aliases. They deal with profiles that meet these very strict criteria, unusual as they may be:

  • There is no personally identifiable information at all. There are no names, dates, locations, and/or relationships on the profile that can be used to connect it to a real person.
  • There is no personally identifiable information in the change history. That is, the profile never had any personally identifiable information. Often a member will clear out the information on a profile but it's still in the history.

For the WikiTree Team - Review Complete

  • Johnson-19207 is recommended for deletion. The profile has never been connected to any other profile and has no information. The original creator uploaded 3 profiles with the surname Johnson. The other 2 profiles have been sourced and have no apparent connection to a "John Johnson."
  • Marsh-7168 is recommended for deletion. It was created as a fictional person to give the creator a way to look at the lineage of both parents. There is no valid child to merge the profile with.
  • Andersson-1905 is recommended for deletion. It was included in a GEDCOM import, the profile has never been connected and has no dates or locations. An experienced member from Sweden has reviewed the profiles created and the same time and can find no connections to work with.

I suggest Andersson-1905 be deleted.

It was created with a gedcom import in 2011 by a member who has made no contributions since 2015. Currently it has no manager. It has no information except the name "Christoffer Andersson" -- no dates, no links, no comments. It is impossible to know which CA this is supposed to represent.

Not disagreeing with you, Per, but I'm hoping you can take a look at the contributions log and search for Christoffer to see the others imported around him. Do any of those provide any clue as to who he might have been? If not, I'll recommend for deletetion.

Thanks, I didn't think about that option. But now I have checked other profiles created close to it, and I don't get any help from that unfortunately.

Thanks for checking. I didn't see anything but being unfamiliar with patronymics and the location, I needed someone else to take a look. I'll move this to the Team.

What is the approach for profiles created as Unknown Unknown simply to represent a father of an illegitimate child? If the mother never married the father this person can never be identified (unless at some point in the future there are DNA profiles added that are associated with the child and with the unknown father that could lead to identification. Example profile Unknown Unknown (abt.1880-). Since no details are known or could be found should these profiles be deleted?

Thanks for asking the question, Sarah. At this point, the Unknowns Team adds research notes such as those currently on the profile and moves on. The profile does not meet the currently defined requirements for deletion as there is an identifiable relationship.

If you are interested in seeing that policy changed, consider the reasons provided in the following help pages, then use the steps in the Problems with Policies process to make your suggestions.

Sorry a couple more to add:

Unfortunately, these don't qualify for the Unknowns Team deletion process. All have links to other profiles, dates, or places. I offered a potential resolution in a comment on the profile of Ann Unknown (1825-) and took care of Wimsett-77.

Here are the steps I use to resolve these types of profiles:

  • Reviewed the contributions of the creator of Arthur Wimsett-77, finding when he was created as the father of Wimsett-75
  • Reviewed the change history of Wimsett-75
  • Discovered that Wimsett-77 was disconnected and Wimsett-78 connected as father
  • Since the original intent had been as the father, I merged the two father profiles, only keeping the data for the current one Wimsett-78.

Give this research angle a try to see if it provides clues for the other profiles you've suggested for deletion. Please let me know if you have any questions.
