Biography
Erasmus Smith of Somerby (bur. 1614 Husbands Bosworth, Leicester).[1][2]
Purchased Withcote from his elder brother.[3]
During the 19th century an annual fair was held on 16 October, and a village feast soon after the patronal festival of the parish church, All Saints (1 November). Local histories have given particular prominence to the execution of nine women at Leicester in 1616 for bewitching one of the sons of Erasmus Smith (d. 1614) of Husbands Bosworth Hall, and also to the lighting that struck the parishchurch on 6 July 1755 and caused great damage.

On 19 Nov 1586 he married his second wife, Margaret Cabe (Cave) at Husbands Bosworth [4]
At an unknown date Erasmus Smith, who died in 1614, gave land in the parish in trust for the church, causeways or other charitable purposes. A Benefaction Board within the Parish Church details: "a half-yard land and several odd lands, lyingin Bosworth..., the rent and profits... to be to the use of the Church, and Causeways and other Charitable uses." By the Inclosure Award of 1765, 26 acres and 6 perches of land were appropriated and known as the Church Land, and used "...for repairs and beautifying" the church, and 15 perches of land to the use ofthe causeways.
Loans raised on the value of the Church Land Charity were used on occasion, notably in 1812 to facilitate the construction of the first north aisle and arcade, and in 1867 for the restoration of the nave and aisles. Inthe major reconstruction work of the parish church carried out in 1861 the trustees of the Church Land Charity bore the cost of erecting a new vestry to the north of the chancel and of opening up the blocked off arches to the former chapel on the south side. The land was sold at some time between 1950 and 1955 and the proceeds invested in stock for the use of the Church.
Erasmus Smith was buried on 13 May 1615 (not 1616) at Husbands Bosworth [5] (See attached snip from register)
