Stephen Roane

Biography

Stephen was born in the 50's in Bath, Maine. He was the sixth son of Paul M. Roane Sr. and Priscilla L. Brown. He attended local schools and graduated from Morse High School. After high school he attended Maine Maritime Academy, in the Marine Engineering field.

After graduation from Maine Maritime Academy he worked as a marine engineer for several companies, mostly in the Great Lakes Trade. In 1990/1991 he working aboard the Roll-on/Roll-off M/V Cape Horn during the Desert Storm Action. He earned the endorsement as a Chief Engineer of Steam/Motor/Gas Turbine of any horsepower. Before retiring, he spend the last 20 years as First Asst/Relief Chief Engr. on the M/V Presque Isle on the Great Lakes.

I started family research helping my wife in late 1980's researching her family roots during trips to the New England area. While researching for a Phebe Brown in the Maine State Library I came across the name Henrietta James in a Brown book^[1] and realized it was my grandmother, wife of George Seth Brown ^[2]. My wife started researching the James family and corresponded with Richard Wells who was also researching the James family. Richard Wells had contacted the James family and discover a large collection of research by Charles T. James Charles T. James. Word was that some of the James research was heading for the trash and Richard had contacted them in time to get it.. Richard also corresponded with Charles J. James who also was doing research. Charles J. (Jordan) was my mother's cousin who visited Maine often to see his Aunt "Etta" (Henrietta) and my mother. I remember he came to our home to visit and I being 11 year old and home alone, would not let him in. I called my mother at work and told her someone named Jordan was at the door and she told me to let him in. I last met with Jordan in Florida in 1991. I thank my wife and Richard Wells for all their work along with Jordan and his family
