To Do

Feel free to chip away at the to-do list; we could use a volunteer to manage each item below.

  • Notables - connect, write biographies, etc
  • Research Resources: Could include various research tools, from the most common to the smallest regional archive; books about a family line or on-line tools for genealogists; a website for DNA for research.
  • Create new location categories in towns where Jews traditionally lived. Make sure to have at least one profile for the category before creating it. Example high-level category: Shtetls Lithuania
  • Create a list of historical pogroms (see Wikipedia entry ) and other deterrents for Jews (weather events; geo-political events; epidemics; international laws relating to persecution). Make new categories where appropriate, in consultation with Categorization Project.
  • Cemetery work - We would also like to make a record of places of burial for each person who is in our family trees. If the headstone contains Hebrew writing, we would like it to be translated.

Jewish Roots Resources

Substantial Resources are Welcome! Please add them on our resource page: Jewish Roots Resources

Resource People

  • For a full list of project members, see the badge report. Check-in messages are sent about once a year to see if you have continued interest in the project; if your badge has been removed and you are still working with JRP, please send a message to Elaine Martzen.
  • Lynn Gazis is the coordinator for a Yizkor book project for Thessaloniki.

Jewish Roots Categories and Sticker

Category stream for maintenance (unsourced, needs profiles created, etc): Jewish Roots Maintenance Categories

You can add the Jewish Roots Sticker to any records for profiles of persons of Jewish Heritage by cutting and pasting the following into the bio section (anywhere below the == Biography == header): {{Jewish Roots Sticker}}

Alternatively, you may use the Jewish Roots Category: [[Category:Jewish Roots]]

Sometimes this is preferred if there are multiple templates or stickers on a profile. it is not necessary to add this when the sticker is used, since the sticker auto-adds the category.

Using the sticker or the category helps the Project find, maintain, and improve profiles. Here's the list of profiles currently in the Jewish Roots category: Jewish Roots
