Hannah (Osgood) Brown (1735 - 1777)

Biography

Hannah was born on February 10, 1735 daughter of Stephen Osgood and Dorcas Ballard.^[1][2] She was married on December 25, 1753 to Timothy Brown son of William and Mary (Baldwin) Brown.^[3] Hannah died in childbirth on July 4, 1777.^[4][5]

Hannah was the second oldest child of Stephen and Dorcas (Ballard) Osgood. She married Timothy Brown whose brother William Brown married Hannah's sister Mary Osgood.

Timothy and Hannah lived in Tewksbury where Timothy had a grist mill. On 14 September 1793, Timothy Brown for a payment of £120 conveyed to Parker Varnum (a son-in-law) property in Tewksbury consisting of ten acres with grist mill in an area near the Concord River. The sale included fishing rights in the Merrimack River.^[6]

Children

Hannah Osgood and Timothy Brown were parents of eleven children born at Tewksbury.

i DORCAS BROWN, b. 31 Mar 1754;^[7] d. at Dracut, 29 Apr 1800; m. at Dracut, 31 Mat 1772, PARKER VARNUM, b. about 1746 son of John and Phebe (Parker) Varnum; Parker d. at Dracut, 18 Dec 1824. Parker married second Abiah Osgood daughter of Timothy and Phebe (Frye) Osgood.

iii HANNAH BROWN, b. 21 May 1758;^[9] d. at Tewksbury, 19 Feb 1798; m. at Danvers, 12 Nov 1778, PIERCE ROGERS REA, b. at Gloucester, 24 Apr 1754 son of Caleb and Ruth (Porter) Rea; Pierce d. at Tewksbury, 2 Mar 1834. Pierce Rogers Rea was at the Battle of Bunker Hill.

iv OSGOOD BROWN, b. 13 May 1760;^[10] d. at Tewksbury, 1828; m. at Dracut, 4 Apr 1792, HANNAH MEARS, b. 1770 (based on age 43 at death); Hannah d. at Tewksbury, 19 Sep 1813 (“dropsy of the head”).

v ESTHER BROWN, b. 27 Aug 1762;^[11] d. by drowning 17 Oct 1768.^[12]

vi MARY BROWN, b. 12 Nov 1764;^[13] m. at Tewksbury, 24 Jun 1784, BENJMAIN BOWERS, b. at Groton, 27 Oct 1766 son of Isaac and Priscilla (Dodge) Bowers son of Isaac and Priscilla (Dodge) Bowers; Benjamin d. at Groton, 5 May 1813.
