George (Matthews) Mathews was born in Glamorgan, Wales.

George Oscar Matthews was born in Q4 1875 to parents Ann (Williams) Matthews (abt.1840-) and Richard Matthews. He was born in Swansea. ^[1][2]

1881 Census

The family were living in the St John's area of Swansea when the census was taken on the 3rd of April.^[3]

1891 Census

George, age 15, a Plumber's assistant, was living with his family in the St John's area of Swansea when the census was taken on the 5th of April.^[4]

1901 Census

George, age 25, a Plumber, was living with his mother Ann and half-sister Catharine in Llangafelach, Swansea on the 31st of March when the census was taken. (His father and brother Morgan were boarding for work in Dunkinfield, Cheshire, England.)^[5]

Marriage & Children

George Oscar Matthews married Hannah Hanlin in Q4 (Oct-Nov-Dec) of 1902 in Swansea, Glamorgan, Wales.^[6]

George and Hannah had at least the following children:

• Brenda Elizabeth (Mathews) Widlake (1903-)
• Haydn Hanlin Mathews (1909-)

1911 Census

George Oscar Mathews, his wife Hannah, and their two children, Brenda and Hayden, were living in Dunkinfield, Cheshire, England on the 2nd of April when the census was taken. (Oscar's parents had also re-located to Dunkinfield from Swansea.)^[7]

Death & Burial

George Oscar Mathews died on the 8th of November 1948.^[8][9]

Probate was granted for him on the 31st of December 1948 in Glamorgan, Wales, to Hayden Hanlin Mathews, Brenda Elizabeth Widlake and John Widlake.^[8]
