Karen,

I apologize for not seeing your comment about John Adam Link’s name earlier. We have so far found a single document where John Adam used the spelling Linck. He signed a deed as Johan Adam Linck in Spotsylvania County, Virginia in 1751. In fact, he signed it twice. The clerk seems to have been trying to reproduce the German script. I am reasonably confident it is the man who later lived in Halifax County, Virginia. His wife is named Sarah, and he appears in Halifax County about that time.

In the Gallery to John Adam Link in my tree at Ancestry.com, I posted images of that deed with, for comparison, the nearly contemporary German signature of Johan Adam Stolz, found for me by a German friend. There is a lot of documented material about this Link family in my tree.

The man who died in Halifax County, Virginia, in 1789 was not the man who was born on 13 October 1721 in Germany.

The man born on 13 October 1721 in Germany lived till 1805. Here is his family

John Jacob Link (Germany to Pennsylvania) father of

John Adam Link I (13 Oct 1721 Germany over PA to 24 Apr 1805 Frederick, MD) father of

John Adam Link II (31 Dec 1756 PA over MD to 28 Sept 1835 [now West] VA) father of

John Adam Link III (14 Sep 1797 [now West] VA to 4 Jan 1873 WV

The Y-DNA of the two Link families is different.
