Biography
William Link was born about 1740 to John Adam Link and his wife Sarah. He married Mary.
Will
William Link made his will on 12 December 1820. He was described as “William Link Sen of the County of Halifax & State of Virginia, being sick & weak in body but of sound mind and disposing memory.” He made the following bequests:
- “to my beloved wife and daughter Peggy the Tract of land I now live On Containing 380 acres more or less lying on the waters of Lawsons Creek & at the death of my wife and daughter Peggy, which ever may last be I give the same to my Grandson Fieldin Link son of my son William”
- “to my wife for and during her life two Negroes (Viz) Brister and Sally, and also One Grey horse, two milch cos, Two sows and pigs and all my stock of sheep and Geese also one feather bed and furniture I also Give her 400 lb Pork & Twenty five barrels Corn”
- After the death of his wife, his personal property to be sold “and the money to be equally divided amongst my following Children (viz) Jno., Byrd, Sally (wife of Moses Fuller) and William”
- “to my daughter Peggy two negroes Dick and Reuben & one feather Bed and furniture”
- “to my daughter Sally Fuller (wife of Moses Fuller) One Negro boy Henry”
- “to my son Byrd one Negro boy Sundy”
- “to my son John one Negro boy Masten”
- “to my son William one Negro woman Doll”
He appointed his friend James Warren and his son William Link his executors. His will was witnessed by Robert Oliver, Bluford Oliver and James Turner. It was proved 26 February 1821.[1]
