Biography
Richard Legh Esq alias Richard Leigh of High Leigh Esq[1] alias Richard of Legh[2] alias Richard Legh of High Legh[3]
Richard Legh lived in High Legh in Cheshire, England.
Richard was the son, and in 1442 heir apparent, of John of Legh son of Richard of Legh.[2]
Richard was the brother of:
- Margery, who married John of Leycestre, the brother of Richard's wife Alice.[2]
Richard married Alice the daughter of John of Leycestre son of William of Leycestre.[2] An Indenture for their marriage and the marriage of their siblings, Margery Legh and John Leycestre, was agreed between John of Legh, the father of Richard and Margery, and John of Leycestre, the father of John and Alice, on 4 August 20 Henry VI, 1442.[2]
Richard Legh, esq, had children:
- Thomas Legh, senior, heir,[1] married Douce, the daughter of William Bothe Knt, on 2 December, 1461.[4]
- Joan;[1]
- Emma;[1]
- Isabella,[1] married Roger (Robert) Mulyngton son and heir of Hugh Mulyngton while they were children, divorced after 24 May 1475.[3]
"Richard Legh Esq" made his will on 12 August 1484, requesting to be buried in the chapel of the Blessed Mary at Raustorne.[1] The witnesses to his will were Geoffrey Starkey of Stretton, Thomas Legh of Northwood, Sir Richard Karynton, chaplain of the parish of Raustorne, and Sir John Assheby etc.[1]
"Richard Legh of Hee Legh" made another will on 10 January 1484-5, requesting to be buried in the chapel of St James on the south side of the church at Rostorn.[1] The witnesses to this will were Geoffrey Starkey of Stretton, esq, Thomas Legh of Northwood, Sir Nicholas Devyas rector of the church of Lyme, and Ricahrd Carrington curate of Rostorne church etc.[1] Probate was endorsed on the back of this will.[1]
