Biography
Richard Cornwall Legh was born on 10 June 1818, and baptized on 12 June 1818 in Rostherne, Cheshire, England, United Kingdom, son of George John Legh and Mary Blackburne. [1]
At the 1851 Census, he was a visitor in the house of his uncle, John Ireland Blackburne.[2]
On 3 June 1851, he was appointed assistant secretary to the government of Malta, and clerk to the council of government of that island. [3]
He married Thomasina Antonia Sedley, daughter of Frederick Sedley and Catarina Alessi of Malta on 28 June 1852 in Malta, and recorded in London.[4] They had children, including
- Sydney Cornwall Legh, born 31 October 1861 in Malta[5], graduated AB Harvard in the class 1904, and AB from Oxford in 1908,[6] died 12 April 1852 at Malvern, Worcestershire, a "retired schoolmaster," the last of the Leghs of High Legh, Cheshire.[7]
He died on 10 January 1876 at Valleta, Malta, leaving a relict, Thomasina Antonia Legh, as principal beneficiary of his will.[8]
