Ellen Legh is said in both Burke's Commoners and Ormerod's History of Chester to have married Sir Ralph Leycester of Toft, and to be daughter of Philip Legh by Elizabeth Brereton. Philip Legh and Elizabeth Brereton were evidently married c. 1506, making a birthdate of 1478 much too early; further, Ralph Leycester was born c. 1519 and would be far too young to be her husband. The most likely birthdate is sometime c. 1515-1520, based on that information.

The Legh who married Thomas Hulse is not named in the source cited for the marriage but it is clearly not Ellen.
