Robert was born on July 13, 1834 in Mount Alexander, County Wexford; the son of William and Elizabeth Leggett.
He got married to Mary Anne Cooke on September 3, 1861 at Christ Church (Church of Ireland) in Gorey. They had six children during their marriage. Their names were: Elizabeth, Annie, William, Robert, Sophia, and Thomas.
Robert passed away on August 12, 1895 at age 61. He is buried in Christ Church Graveyard.
