Biography

Joseph Landreneau, son of Pierre Landreneau and Anne Boltz, was born on 2 July 1770 in Opelousas, St. Landry Parish, Louisiana, New Spain. His baptism on 29 July 1770 was recorded at the Pointe Coupee Catholic Church. His godparents were Joseph Geoffrion and Henriette Rabalais.^[1]

Joseph married Helene Juneau on 28 June 1789, at Pointe Coupee, Louisiana. She was a daughter of Claude Juneau and Marie Francoise Lemoine.^[2]

Together they had at least these children:

Joseph Landreneau (c.1793-1878)
Ozitte Landreneau (c.1798-1876)
Auguste Landreneau (1803-1850)
Jean Baptiste Landreneau (1820-)

Joseph died before 19 March 1828 when he was identified as deceased when his daughter Ozitte married.^[3]

Warning: Check the data. A mother's death date (Boltz-308 died 1770) should not be before one of her children's birth dates (Landreneau-7 born 2 Jul 1770) .

Landerneau-4 and Landreneau-7 appear to represent the same person because: Similar name, same spouse, same DOB. Either spelling is acceptable although variant should be entered as other surname. Landreneau is the surname of the father and a living descendant and is the most common variant in Hebert CD of St Landry Records....therefore I've proposed it that direction. Volume 1b: Pointe Coupee Records 1722-1769 lists the name under "Landernau sometimes Landerneau, Landrénau" while Vol 2 uses "Landrenau sometimes Launderneau." Please merge into one profile. Will contact Louisiana project to see if they have a preference for name spelling.
