Biography
David V. Hughey, B.A., B.S., M.Acc., M.S., Ph.D., was born in Henderson, Nevada in 1944 to Vaughn V. Hughey, a chemist with Basic Incorporated, and Janet R. Tabor, daughter of a Bohemian immigrant. He didn't grow up there as his dad and mom moved first to Oak Ridge, Tennessee, and then finally to Tiffin, Seneca County, Ohio.
He developed his love of genealogy as a result of an 8th grade Ohio history project on family history. His dad's parents were deceased long before then, but his mom's grandparents helped him with some of the answers. They also kept some "skeletons hidden in the closet." His dad's family, though my dad was born and grew up in northern Michigan, was basically from eastern Kentucky. His maternal grandfather was a Bohemian, who had worked in many ways, ran a beer garden, and ran a grocery store. His maternal grandmother's family was from Bay City, Michigan (They immigrated there from Ontario in the 1880's.)
He earned a Bachelor's degree in Sociology from Kent State University. Afterwards, he started a master's in Anthropology at Southern Illinois--Carbondale, but transferred to the University of Pittsburgh to earn his doctorate with a specialty in Human Genetics. His studies there were interrupted by a stint with the US Army Medical Department in Okinawa during the Vietnam War;
He has taught at several colleges and universities in the US and finally finished up being College Dean and Professor at International College of the Cayman Islands on Grand Cayman. He has since earned bachelor's and master's degrees in Accounting, passed the CPA Exam in Atlanta, Georgia, in 2002, and recently became an IRS Enrolled Agent.
He worked as a corporate accountant in Findlay, Ohio, for two years and in Chehalis, Washington, for three more. He is currently a self-employed business owner.
His publications, in addition to his Ph.D. dissertation, include over 115 poems, five books reviews, an chapter in the book Anthropology on the Great Plains, and research notes.
He has been a member of the American Anthropological Association and American Accounting Association, Poets & Writers, and Washington State Tax Consultants. He was an associate member of the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants.
