Biography
Oliver Hopson was born in Wells, Vermont in 1804. He was son of John Collins Hopson of Wells and Persis (Swift) Hopson. Oliver was a Protestant Episcopal clergyman.
He became the rector of St. John's Church in Poultney, Vermont on the Sunday after Easter in 1847. His leadership of the church lasted 18 years, the longest to that date. He served parishes in Wells, Tinmouth, Benson and Hampton as well. He also ran a private school for boys, in order to provide for his large family. His ministry was "efficient and fruitful".[1]
Oliver married Caroline Allis in Derby, Connecticut in Sep 1833.

- Richard Mansfield, died 4 months old.
- William Allis, merchant in Macon, Georgia, died Aug 31, 1873
- George Bailey, Trinity College graduate, ordained Priest, Latin Professor at St Stephen's in Annandale, NY.
- Caroline Scovill, married Rev. Dr. James Starr Clark
- Edward Crafts, left college to join 19th Connecticut Regiment, killed at Battle of Cedar Creek, Oct 19th, 1864
- Mansfield Cobia, farmer in Waverly, Illinois
- Mary Clark, living with her father in Waverly, Illinois.
He passed away Aug 26, 1893 and is buried at Bard College Cemetery in Annandale-on-Hudson, New York. [2]
