Gerardus Martinus Hofman (1822 - 1886)

Biography

Gerardus Martinus Hofman was born in Rotterdam on 19 December1822 ^[1]. His parents were Gerrit Hofman and Maria van Essel. His birth was reported to the Rotterdam civil registry the next day by his father, then 22 years old and a shoemaker's assistant by trade.

On 9 May 1844 he notified the authorities of the death of his grandfather Gerardus Hofman. The deed of this death shows that he was a carpenter by trade at the time.

On 19 August 1846 Gerardus Martinus married Adriana Maria Rotteveel (also from Rotterdam) ^[2]. Adriana was 22 years old at the time, a milk saleswoman by profession. Gerardus was 23, he was a carpenter by trade.

Gerardus and Adriana had one child together: daughter Maria Machtilda.

Adriana died on 5 November 1848 just 24 years old.

A few years later Gerardus married Jacoba Elisabeth Aelbers on 8 May 1851 in Boskoop (Jacoba's birthplace) ^[3]. Jacoba at the time was 24 years old. Gerardus was 28 and still a carpenter by profession.

Gerardus died at the age of 63 on 5 November1886 ^[4].
