William Helms was born in Goshen, Orange County, New York, on May 22, 1756. [1]

On December 21, 1777, William married Eleanor Dobbins and lived in the Sugar-Loaf, Orange County, NY. All of their 7 children, were born in Sugar-Loaf, Orange County, NY. His wife Eleanor Dobbins 1760-1806.

Helms was a private in Col. John Hawthorne's Fourth Orange County New York Militia, in the Revolutionary War. William Helms, Revolutionary War Veteran 1756-1826. [2]
