Biography
Ezekiel Hale was born at Newbury, Massachusetts on July 14, 1725, son of Ezekiel and Ruth Hale. [1] [2]
He married first, Mary Moody on September 6, 1743. [1] She died at Newbury on August 10, 1749 in her 22nd year. [1] [2]
He married second Mary Sargent of Amesbury, Massachusetts on May 10, 1750. Mary was born at Amesbury on March 3, 1730/1, daughter of Moses and Sarah (Bagley) Sargent. [3] [4] [2]
Mary died at Newbury on January 10, 1750/1, shortly after the birth of her daughter Mary. [1] [2]
Her father Moses Sargent wrote his will on April 15, 1755, which was approved on October 14, 1756. In it he left L130 to his grand daughter Mary Hale, daughter of my daughter Mary Hale, deceased. He further specified if my grand daughter Mary dies before her full portion is distributed, then a portion will go to my son in law Ezekiel Hale, the remainder divided among my other children [5]
After Mary's death, Ezekiel married thirdly, Hannah Balch of Bradford on April 7, 1752. [1] Hannah was born on May 25, 1732, the daughter of Reverend William and Rebecca Balch. [6] [2]
She died at Newbury on July 17, 1755 in her 24th year. [1] [2]
His fourth wife was Abigail Sargent, daughter of Reverend Christopher and Susan (Peaselee) Sargent and cousin to his former wife, Mary Sargent. She was born at Methuen on April 2, 1734, and they were married on January 22, 1755. [1] [2] [7]
He had a total of sixteen children by his four wives. [2]

- On 11 Aug 1840, his great-granddaughter, Mary Hale, visited his gravesite. The tombstone was inscribed: "Sacred to the memory of Captain Ezekiel Hale, who departed this life August the 28th A.D. 1789 aged 64 years."
