Biography
George (Hering) Drechsel was born at midnight on the 8th of September 1823 in Speichersdorf, Germany.[1][2][3][4] He was the illegitimate child of George Drechsel, a servant in Speichersdorf, and Eva Barbara Haering.[1] George was baptized on the 9th of September in a German Protestant Church.[1] His Godparents were Georg Hering, a journeyman tailor in Speichersdorf, and Daniel Fleischmann, a teacher in Wirbenz.[1]
George and Barbara Mehlheimer first married in Bavaria, Germany, where their daughters Barbara and Margaret were born. George migrated with his family from Germany to the United States in 1852.[1] He married Barbara a second time in 1853 in Dearborn Indiana. [5] They had six known children.

In 1860 George and Barbara lived in Aurora, Dearborn, Indiana.[7]
George and Barbara still lived in Aurora in 1870.[6] George was forty-eight years old and working as a cooper.[6] Barbara was listed as age forty-eight as well.[6] Margaret, seventeen years old, was listed as born in Bavaria and she did not attend school.[6] John (13), Louise (11), and Mary (7) did attend school.[6]
George died in 1908. [2]
