Frederick George Dorrington (1856 - 1918)

Biography

Frederick, son of William Howitt Dorrington & Maria, was baptised on 15 June 1856 in Digswell, Hertford, England.^[1]

In the 1861 census, Frederick (age 4) was the son of William H Dorrington in Hertford St Andrew, Hertfordshire, England.^[2]

In the 1871 census, Frederick (age 14) was the son of William Hewitt Dorrington in Bedford, St Paul, Bedfordshire, England.^[3]

Frederick was in the New Zealand Gazette on 19 February 1884 in Greymouth. He was listed as a shareholder in the Golden Fleece United Quartz-Mining Company, that was operating at Murray Creek, near Reefton. He was an Accountant in Greymouth and had 50 shares.^[4]

Catherine's marriage to Frederick George Dorrington was registered in 1886 in New Zealand.^[5]

Frederick was registered to vote in 1897 in Greymouth, New Zealand.^[6]

Frederick was registered to vote in 1911 in Stafford Street Hokitika, Westland, New Zealand.^[7]

Frederick was mentioned on a memorial at Anglican Cemetery, Tauranga, Tauranga City, Bay of Plenty, New Zealand with a death date of 22 November 1918.^[8]

Frederick was mentioned in the Poverty Bay Herald on 3 December 1918 in Gisborne, New Zealand. "Mr. Frederick George Dorrington, manager of the Tauranga branch of the Bank of New Zealand, died at the Tauranga Hospital as the result, of an attack of influenza. The late Mr Dorrington was born in Hertfordshire, England, and joined the Hertford County Bank. He came to New Zealand forty four years ago and joined the Bank of New Zealand at Lyttelton. He was manager at Marton, Port Chalmers, and Hokitika respectively, and latterly has been relieving manager, putting in three terms at Tauranga and one at Te Puke. He is survived by a widow, one son, and two daughters. The son is Mr. P. W. Dorrington, solicitor, of Dannevirke."^[9]
