FORMER DRESEN PRIEST DIES IN HOSPITAL

"Requiem high mass for Rev. Father Anthony Joseph Domm, 67, was said at the Sacred Heart Catholic church in Coshocton Tuesday morning at 10 o’clock, with Bishop Michael J. Ready of Columbus as celebrant. Burial was in St. Joseph’s cemetery in Columbus.

Rev. Father Domm, for 20 years pastor of the Sacred Heart church, died in Good Samaritan hospital, Zanesville, Saturday morning at 5 o’clock. He had been ill for several months from an asthmatic condition and heart trouble.

Father Domm was born in Cologne, Germany, Dec. 19, 1877, and came to the United States in 1890. In 1893 he took up his classical studies at St. Anselm’s college in Manchester, N. H., and studied at that institution until 1900. From that time until his ordination in 1904 he was engaged wth his philosophical and theological studies at St. Vincent’s college in Beatty, Pa., and Mt. St. Mary’s seminary in Cincinnati.

Father Domm was ordained May 28, 1904, by the late Rev. J. J. Hartley, bishop of Columbus. He was the first seminarian elevated to the priesthood by Bishop Hartley.

Following his ordination Father Domm was assigned to the position of assistant priest at St. Mary’s church in Columbus where he remained until Dec. 6, 1913, when he was assigned as pastor of St. Ann’s church and mission at Dresden. On Feb. 2, 1926, he was appointed pastor of the Sacred Heart church in Coshocton, succeeding Rev. Father J. J. Slattery, who was assigned to St. Francis de Sales church in Newark.

Surviving are a sister in Germany and three brothers in this country." [1]
