Deborah (Dewing) Hawes (1668 - 1752)

Biography

Deborah Dewing was born on 1 October 1668 in Dedham, Suffolk, Massachusetts Bay Colony. Her parents were Andrew and Ann (Donstall) Dewing.^[1][2] Her surname is spelled "Duin" on the Dedham record.

Deborah married Joseph Hawes by about 1692, in Dedham, based on the birth of their first known child in September 1693.^[3] Their marriage year is commonly given as "by 1696", but Ann was most certainly a daughter of Deborah and Joseph.

They had known children, all born in Dedham:

5. Deborah, married __ Pratt
6. Jonathan (1706-1742) ^[6]
7. David (twin of Joseph) (1706) ^[6]

They moved to Needham, Suffolk, Massachusetts Bay Colony by 1718, as the death of their child Ann is recorded there that year. Their children Joseph and Jonathan also predeceased them, also dying in Needham.^[7]

Joseph wrote his will in October 1745. He mentions wife Deborah; daughter Deborah Pratt; son Josiah; son Jeremiah; son David; and grandchildren Jonathan, Sarah, Anna and Elizabeth, children of his deceased son Jonathan. Son Josiah executor, probably Joseph's eldest surviving son.^[8]

Deborah died on 25 July 1752, in Needham^[7][9]

Joseph died on 8 March 1756, in Needham.^[7][10]
