Rosina Charlotte (Cuthbert) Ray (1856 - 1948)

Biography

Rosina was born^[1] and baptised^[2] in 1856 at Deptford in Kent. She was the daughter of John Cuthbert, then a Porter and Mary Ann New (one of 14 children). Rosina was married^[3] to James Parrish Ray, then a Hatter (but soon to be a Carman) at Walworth in Surrey. They had 10 children at Southwark in Surrey between 1876 and 1900, five daughters plus five sons, all of whom survived childhood (though one son died in WW1 at the Somme in France). She and James lived mainly at Southwark over a 50 year period and he was mainly working as a Carman, though they did live for a time at Blackfriars, London and James was twice recorded as a Horsekeeper. James died in 1926 at Southwark aged 69 years. Rosina was living at High Wycombe in Buckinghamshire (probably with a sister) in 1939^[4]. She finally died^[5] in 1948 at Southwark aged 91 years and was buried there^[6].
