Biography
Marie-Rose was born on 20 July 1784 in Sainte-Anne-des-Pays-Bas along the Rivière St-Jean where her parents had settled around 1770 before moving to Memramcook between 1786 and 1787. She was baptized at birth by Pierre Cormier and baptized with full ceremony by a missionary from Carleton on 8 August 1791. [1][2] Her godparents were Pierre Pinette and Marie Rose Garedin.
She married Jérôme Léger (Joseph & Anne Gaudet) about 1804. [1][3]
In the 1851 census Jérôme was the head of household in Dorchester, Westmorland, New Brunswick, Canada.[4] Their son Ambroise and his family were living next door.
She passed away in Memramcook on 22 Feb 1857 and was buried on 24 February 1857 as Marie Cormier, wife of Jérôme Léger. [5] [3][1] She was given the age of about 73 years in the register. Were present at the funeral Laurent Léger, Pierre Léger and others.
Research Notes
La Pocatière, Québec, is given as location of marriage in My Acadian Family website, citing the 1851 census as source. However, in the census there is no mention of a marriage location. Jérôme and Marie-Rose were both born in the Colony of New Brunswick, and living in Dorchester in 1851. All of their children were born in Memramcook between 1806 and 1826. Stephen White does not mention a location for marriage.
