John Coffin was born in North Carolina.

John was a Friend (Quaker)

John Coffin was born on 31 July 1778 in North Carolina, likely in Guilford County, North Carolina, a son of Samuel Coffin and Mary Duna (Carr) Coffin.^[1]

He married Abigail Hobbs on 26 March 1808 at either Uwharrie Monthly Meeting or Back Creek Mothly Meeting, both of which were in Randolph County, North Carolina.^[2] They had at least nine children, though there may have been more who did not survive to adulthood.

John and Abigail migrated to Springfield Monthly Meeting in Wayne County, Indiana, from Marlborough Monthly Meeting in Randolph County, North Carolina, on 4 September 1852.^[3][4]

John survived his wife Abigail by three years, passing away at age 81 on 23 December 1859 in Wayne County, Indiana.^[5] He was laid to rest next to his wife Abigail in the cemetery at Nettle Creek Friends Church in Dalton Township, Wayne County, Indiana, USA.^[6]
