Lenard Coat ^[1][2]

Len was born on July 8, 1901 in Upper Sturt, South Australia, Australia, son of Charles Coat (1862–1937) and Mary Ann Hines Bradley (1868–1947).^[3][4]

He is recorded at having lived in Parkside in about 1931.

Len (30) married Thelma Irene Griffin (27) (born on April 24, 1904 in Carrington Street, Young Ward, Adelaide, South Australia; daughter of Male Noll and Edith Elizabeth (Griffin) Curtis) on August 29, 1931 in Adelaide. ^[5]

Their children were:

• John Leonard Coat (1932–2008)
• Jillian Irene Coat (1936–2005)

Between 1944-1950 Len was working as a carrier and contractor. There are many references in newspapers of the period of his appearance at court of traffic infringements, no doubt trying to be speedy in his deliveries!

Coates Mill

He is recorded at having lived in Jamestown in about 1956. He was the proprietor of the local timber mill, depicted in the local main street mural.

He and his wife Thelma were also believed to have resided in Barmera South Australia at some time, perhaps in the 1960's.

Len died on August 30, 1979 in Adelaide, South Australia, aged 78. He was buried in Centennial Park Cemetery, Pasadena, South Australia.

My mother always commented that Len was kind, thoughtful and generous. She also found it amusing that Len proposed to Thelma by mail, unsure if it was his shyness or concern of a possible refusal.^[6]

• The maternal line is confirmed back to the ancestral couple of John Bradley and Sarah Clayton.^[7]

• The paternal line is confirmed due to autosomal matches between his granddaughter Veronica Williams and her second cousin, Family Finder 2012. Relationship further confirmed with another match with her second cousin once removed Family Finder 2015.^[8]
