Biography
Mary was born about 1749. The location of her birth is uncertain and her parents are currently unknown. One story indicates that her parents died on the ship they took to America and another family adopted her. Some stories say she was born in Virginia, others say Germany. Still others imply that Henry and Mary arrived in America as a young couple. No records have been found that provide clarity on this issue.
She married, about 1765, to Henry Pence, likely in Frederick County, Virginia. They had 19 children, 17 of whom grew to adulthood and were married. They moved, in 1805, to Mad River Township, Ohio. Mary died in 1829, and is buried with her husband and other family members at Nettle Creek Cemetery, Westville, Champaign County, Ohio.
"Surname is known as "Flowers" among descendant. The name Flowers is perhaps an English translation of "blumlein" the German word for flower. Buried next to her husband Henry Pence." (courtesy of findagrave)
