Possibly, Berkeley-303 ought to be merged with Barclay-2860 ?

Just a thought, gladly confess to my low level of medieval scholarship . . .  :-)

Or maybe some note with each to warn about potential confusion with the other? And maybe the question about a Barclay-Berkeley link?

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Clan_Barclay "Since the eighteenth century, Barclay historians, noted for their low level in medieval scholarship,[3] have assumed the Scottish family Barclay (de Berchelai) is a branch of one of the Anglo-Norman Berkeley family of Berkeley, Gloucestershire. However, the link between the Scottish and English families is disputed ... "

Both are mentioned in the standard history of the early Berkeleys/Barclays, but as separate individuals. I have added the relevant source to the profile.

Since the eighteenth century, Barclay historians, noted for their low level in Medieval Scholarship have assumed the Scottish family Barclay (de Berchelai) is a branch of the Angl0-Norman Berkeley family of Berkeley, Gloucestershire. However the link between the Scottish and English families is disputed. One theory of the Barclay origin, put forth by the historian G.W.S.Barrow, points to the small village of Berkley in Somerset which in 1086 belonged to Robert Arundel whos main tenant was a Robert , Aundel's manores included Cary Fitzpaine near Castle Cary , Cary Fitzpaine seems to be held by the tenant Robert as well. At the same time as Henry Lovel of Castle Cary, there appears the name of Godfrey de Arundel and Robert and Walter de Berkeley.

Sir Walter de Berkeley was Chamberlain of Scotland and SIr David Barclay was a close associate of Robert the Bruce, took part in the Wars of Scottish Independence and was present at most of his battles, most notably the Battle of Methven where he was captured.

John de Berkeley had an eldest son, Sir Walter de Berkeley who married Eva dtr of Ughtred of Galloway by Gunnilda of Allerdale (grand daughter of Gospatrick, Earl of Northumberland. At this time there appear to be several Berkeley's well establishes all of which would be sons or nephews of John de Berkeley, Various charters give their names as Walter, William, Humphrey, Robert, Theobald and Richard, and the first two of theses held the office of Great Chamberlain of Scotland

During the twelfth-century a branch of this family settled in Scotland and in 1165 we find Walter de Berkeley a chamberlain of the kingdom

Berkeley-332 and Berkeley-303 appear to represent the same person because: country is wrong, but the year's the same. "Dewalter" had been attached to Thomas Berkeley-20, who was born bout 1250. I think these profiles were intended to be for the same person. Please merge if you agree. Thanks.
