Biography
Thomas was born in 1769. He is the son of William Baynard and Rebecca Harrison. Thomas Baynard 14 Dec 1769 St Botolph Aldgate, London, son of William and Rebecca of East Smithfield. Thomas Baynard of Madron married Mary Michell of the town of Penzance on 30 April 1796 at Madron, witnessed by Margaret Mitchell and Jane Branwell. On 7 April 1823 Thomas Baynard of Hendra wrote to the Cornwall Gazette I am “a farmer residing at Hendra near Penzance. I am sole proprietor of the freehold, descended through many generations, and it is unencumbered, and owes neither suit nor service to Lord or Manor.” [Royal Cornwall Gazette, 12 April 1823]
In the 1841 census Thomas Banard 70 independent and Mary 65 were living with their married daughter Constance Finch and her husband William and a servant at Bedminster, Bristol. Thomas Baynard buried 6 June 1842 at Madron. “Deaths. Ist inst, at Cusgarne, Gwennap, Mr Baynard, formerly of Hendra, in the parish of Madron, but late of Bristol, aged 73 years.” [Penzance Gazette, 8 June 1842] Thomas Baynard. To be let by private conract, Hendra Cottage, beautifully situated near Trengwainton, in Madron, formerly occupied by Mr Thomas Baynard, but now unoccupied, … etc [Penzance Gazette, 18 May 1842]. “Deaths. 22nd ult at St Day, Mary, relict of the late Mr Baynard, of Hendra, near this town, aged 70 years. [Penzance Gazette, 6 March 1844]
