In the 1862 estate inventory for William Baynard, Cumba is not listed. [1]
In the will of William Baynard, Cumba is assigned to Thomas. [2]
Slave Owners
- William Grimball Baynard (1792 - abt. 1861)
- Thomas Archibald Baynard (1822 - 1879)
Plantations
- On Edisto Island, but which plantation is not known.
Research Needed
- Disposition after 1862.
- Last name adopted after emancipation.
- The 1820 probate inventory of owner Henry Calder lists a man named either Comba or Cumbo, Given the 40+ years separating the 1862 inventory for William Baynard, it seems unlikely that they represent the same slave. But this should be kept in mind.
