Charles Walter Bastable was born in about 1835.
He married Eliza Matilda Waller (the eldest daughter of Sir Edmund Waller, 4th Baronet and Selina Maria Waller) on 2 June 1859 at Abington, County Limerick, Ireland[1]. Notice of their marriage was printed on page 2 of the Tipperary Vindicator dated 7 June 1859:
- MARRIAGES.
- Abington Church, in this county, Charles Walter Bastable, of Ashrow, county Limerick, Esq. to Eliza Matilda, eldest daughter of the late Sir Edmund Waller, of Newport, county Tipperary, Bart.[2]
They went on to have at least eight children.
Charles and his wife emigrated from Ireland to Quebec, Canada.
In the 1871 Census of Canada, Charles Bastable (36 and a School Master) was recorded living with his wife Eliza Bastable (34) and their children Harriet Bastable (7), Edmond Bastable (8), Adeleide Bastable (6), Eliza Bastable (5), Selina Bastable (3), Mary Bastable (2) and Arthur Bastable (1) at St Jean, Quebec[3].
Charles Walter Bastable passed away on 16 July 1878 at the age of about 43. He was buried at Lachine St-Stephen's Anglican Church in Montreal, Quebec, Canada[4].
