Motivation
[edit]This proposal is inspired by Wikidata:Property_proposal/SIMBAD_catalog_properties_(used_more_than_1_million_times) by User:Mahir256. In 2024 (and probably for a few years to come), Gaia DR3 ID is considered the most reliable star identifier and provides access to the most accurate astrometric information.

Support Important widely-used optical survey, having a separate ID makes a lot of sense. It does only need one property, though, not a separate one for each data release. Thanks. Mike Peel (talk) 07:56, 27 December 2024 (UTC)

Comment Is it really a good idea to migrate catalog code (P528) values to this property? This will create an inconsistency with other catalogues. Romuald 2 (talk) 15:37, 27 December 2024 (UTC)
- Romuald 2, yes it's a *very* good idea. All catalogs with a specific identifier are modeled like this, not doing it for Gaia would only create inconsistency. Plus, beyond consistency, redundancy is bad. Cheers, VIGNERON (talk) 15:15, 28 December 2024 (UTC)

Strong support obviously, I wonder why it hasn't been done already a long time ago
