Other identifiers than GND

[edit]

Right now the property is limited to GND identifiers. What is the best way to change this? @UWashPrincipalCataloger, Emu: FYI. --Kolja21 (talk) 14:25, 2 April 2023 (UTC)Reply

[copied from my talk page]

Hi! I have just discovered the existence of Kalliope-Verbund (GND) ID (P9964); just about 100 uses, surely redundant with GND ID (P227) (it was noticed by Jura in the proposal, in fact, but it was nevertheless created). I'm thinking of proposing its deletion ... would I be wrong? Thanks, --Epìdosis 16:01, 1 April 2023 (UTC)Reply

Kalliope uses GND but it's an independent database = de:Vorlage:Kalliope. I don't know why Wikidata property example (P1855) only shows GNDs. There are other identifiers like CH-002121-2-991170522280805501 = Sokrates und das Göttliche von Hans-Georg Gadamer. Imho formatter URL (P1630) (and the values?) needs to be corrected. --Kolja21 (talk) 22:22, 1 April 2023 (UTC)Reply
OK. As of now the property is scoped for humans and organizations; they are all present in GND, right? If so, we could erase all the present values of the property (you could propose in the property talk page) and rescope it for documents. Would you agree? --Epìdosis 13:10, 2 April 2023 (UTC)Reply

Hm. To be honest, I’m struggling to come up with ideas that wouldn’t create more problems than they solve … --Emu (talk) 14:31, 2 April 2023 (UTC)Reply
Possible course of action:
Imho we should be able to use this property for humans, organizations and documents. (The German template has two parameters: person and object.) --Kolja21 (talk) 14:41, 2 April 2023 (UTC)Reply
I'm about to add archives at (P485)-statements for personal archives (Nachlass (Q3827332)) as listed in Kalliope. The data quality is good, the data is machine-readable, and thanks to the use of authority data IDs it's quite easy create tighter links between people in Wikdiata and archival material related to them.
As every item in Kalliope has an ID (record identifier as URI, e.g. https://kalliope-verbund.info/DE-611-BF-60457) that not only identifies the records but allows direct access to both a human (https://kalliope-verbund.info/DE-611-BF-60457) and machine-readable representation of the resource (https://kalliope-verbund.info/sru?version=1.2&operation=searchRetrieve&query=context.ead.id=DE-611-BF-60457&recordSchema=mods37), it would be useful to add this identifier. Kalliope-Verbund (GND) ID (P9964) as it is now is not appropriate for this purpose.
Kalliope even has an internal ID for 'agents' that probably don't have a GND ID (yet), e.g. https://kalliope-verbund.info/agents/855878 (dataset: https://kalliope-verbund.info/DE-611-BF-126009). It's not exposed or searchable, but used internally. The GND ID as it is used here is not really used, I think. They use the GND ID to identify people, so you can search for GND IDs. Moreover, for people they catalogue material, they generate a page accessible via the persistent URL `http://kalliope-verbund.info/gnd/...`. I wouldn't necessarily argrue for the deletion of Kalliope-Verbund (GND) ID (P9964), but I think that the other identifiers mentioned above would make more sense for Wikidata.
