Cardiff Blues sack attack coach Jason Strange with former Wales international in line to take the job

Cardiff Blues have sacked backs coach Jason Strange just one year after taking the job.


Strange was the first appointment after John Mulvihill arrived in the Welsh capital last summer and was a well-respected coach in the Welsh rugby community.


Having guided Wales under-20s to a Grand Slam in 2016, he carried a reputation as one of the up-and-coming Welsh coaches in the game.

But it's been a difficult season for the Cardiff Blues, who couldn't build on the Challenge Cup success of 2018.

They finished fifth in the Guinness PRO14, missing out on the play-offs and a place in next season's Champions Cup.

In the league, the Blues averaged just under three tries a game, with a total tally of 60 that sees them ranked seventh in the league for tries scored.

However, Strange has been shown the door in what is thought to be the only change to Mulvihill's staff.

Former Wales international Richie Rees, who has been working with the Blues' academy for some time now, is in line to replace Strange, though that move is not rubber-stamped just yet.
