We all know that Uniqlo is a steadfast supplier of everyday basics. And while its mainline offering has produced unexpected fashion hits like the viral windproof blouson, the retailer’s Uniqlo U line is behind some of its best designs.
Launched nearly a decade ago, the offshoot focuses on classic silhouettes rendered in premium, innovative fabrics, which the brand has coined “Future LifeWear Essentials” that are “perfect for your life, today and tomorrow”. Fittingly, Uniqlo tapped the know-how of Christopher Lemaire, who’s gained experience at Hermès, Lacoste and his own eponymous label, and Sarah-Linh Tran, co-artistic director at Lemaire, to lead the team at the research and development centre in Paris.
The duo have a way with excellent trousers. Several have debuted via Uniqlo U’s seasonal collections over the years, including a certain pair that caught the attention of team Vogue in 2021. European shopping director, Naomi Smart, bought a pleated wool style in every colourway after coming across them in store, and multiple editors invested when she wore them to the office in the days following.

The current Uniqlo U collection features numerous great trousers – namely, a tapered horseshoe shape suitably named the “Curve” – alongside hardy outerwear like a single-breasted trench, a cropped coated jacket and a blouson insulated with the brand’s smart Puffertech filling. Also on our wishlist: the brushed sweat trousers and matching half-zip which, when worn together, serve as an elevated alternative to a tracksuit. Be sure to take a closer look at the menswear section, too, which features a utility parka and perfectly-oversized T-shirts.
