Predicted 4LOOP release window

As of writing, 4LOOP doesn’t have a confirmed release date or release window. A rather vague “coming soon” on the game’s official Steam page is the only hint we have. Coupled with talk of internal playtests in an interview with Bad Robot Games CCO, Mike Booth, we assess that development is progressing well. We speculate that a release in late 2026 or 2027 is a reasonable estimate. That said, take this with a pinch of salt until we hear more from SIE and Bad Robot.

4LOOP is described as a tactical four-player co-op shooter set in an original sci-fi universe. You squad up with three other players and drop into runs loosely inspired by rogue-likes. The primary objective, as Mike Booth explains, is to disrupt the aliens’ global mining operation to summon the Mothership and then destroy it. Success leads to weapon and equipment improvements.

Runs are broken down into three acts, culminating in a fight against the Mothership. To succeed in each of the first two acts, you’ll need to extract at an Escape Zone, hinting at 4LOOP borrowing elements from the extraction shooter genre. Bad Robot aims to give players significant scope for experimentation and improvisation by balancing risk and reward through equipment combinations, creative ways to take down enemies, and clever cooperation with teammates.

4LOOP trailers

SIE and Bad Robot Games have released one trailer so far, an announcement trailer at The Game Awards 2025. A mix of gameplay captured on PS5 Pro and pre-rendered cinematics, it reveals that Earth was invaded by an alien force, its inhabitants crystallized into translucent, violet statues in under a minute. Only a small group survived. They must use the very machine that broke the world to save it.

The trailer then lines up some curated gameplay clips before showcasing a machine that more-or-less 3D prints new humans, offering up an in-universe justification for the game’s match-based runs. “Fail. To save the world,” as the game’s tagline explains.

We then get a glimpse of what looks like a meta-progress skill tree, presumably designed to make subsequent runs a little easier. We then see a team of four combatants fight a massive, airborne cube, gun down robots, and move tactically across a suburban area.

4LOOP platforms

As confirmed on the title screen at the end of the announcement trailer that debuted at The Game Awards 2025, 4LOOP will launch on PS5 and PC via Steam. As is customary for Sony-backed third-party releases, it’s doubtful the game will make its way onto Xbox or Nintendo consoles. That’s unless the game is a massive success, and even then, we’re looking at a year or two before they could theoretically land on other platforms.
