Adam Blackstone treated guests to a special evening with Teyana Taylor amidst 2026 Grammy considerations.
Held at The Sun Rose in West Hollywood on Tuesday (Oct. 14), the conversation and intimate performance— her first since undergoing emergency vocal cord surgery in early August— was profound, comical, and utterly mesmerizing.
“This is going to be a different type of legacy night,” Blackstone noted when things commenced. “This is a very special creative conversation for my girl Teyana Taylor.”
Throughout the evening, Taylor detailed how she carefully crafted and wove together each feature, interlude, lyric, and more from her genre-bending visual album, Escape Room— even if it was never intended to be such. “I’m in my director bag right now and I originally wanted to do a movie and just have a soundtrack for it as a way to give the label an album,” Taylor admitted.
She didn’t want to come out of retirement in this capacity and kept emphasizing that she only wanted to do a soundtrack for a short film— not a standard LP. After she turned it in the album, the label began the rollout process and it took on a cinematic life of its own.
Taylor reflected on her faith-led catalyst and she later performed “Bed Of Roses” and “Hard Part” with Lucky Daye, both accompanied by Blackstone on piano. She confessed to being nervous about singing, but the audience cheered her on and she sounded incredible.

Towards the end of the conversation, Taylor and Blackstone were joined by her eldest daughter, Junie. Taylor and her baby girl sang their duet, “Always,” sans her youngest, Rue Rose, who was asleep in the crowd. Blackstone praised Taylor for allowing her children to “thrive in their gifts” and Taylor noted that she will always incorporate her children in her art.
Blackstone closed out the night by speaking on their current Grammy considerations. (He’s campaigning for his latest album, Humble Magic, Vol. 1). “This is music that came from our heart and our soul with the things that we had been going through by making this music. We’ve got to hold each other up, hold each other accountable and keep good music going,” he shared.
