Pittsburgh Penguins forward Rickard Rakell underwent surgery on his left hand on Sunday and is expected to be sidelined for the next six to eight weeks.

The procedure was performed by Dr. John Fowler in collaboration with head team physician Dr. Dharmesh Vyas at UPMC Mercy Hospital.

Rakell suffered the injury in the early stages of a shootout loss to the Columbus Blue Jackets on Saturday.
The 32-year-old native of Sweden has tallied three goals and five assists over nine games this season, his fourth full season in Pittsburgh after being acquired from the Anaheim Ducks at the 2022 Trade Deadline.
Rakell has 239 goals and 288 assists over 811 career games with the Ducks and Penguins, adding 11 goals and eight assists in 48 playoff games.
Rakell is in the fourth season of a six-year, $30 million contract.
