Poland, officially known as the Republic of Poland, is located at the intersection of central and eastern Europe, and notably shares a border with Russia, Belarus and Ukraine. In September 1939 the invasion of Poland by Germany sparked the Second World War. Today, it is the fifth most populous member state of the European Union, with more than 38 million people, and Warsaw, its capital, is its most populous city. The prime minister is Donald Tusk.
