Peter Mandelson is a former Labour politician and a key architect of New Labour. Known as the “prince of darkness” for his skill as a political strategist, he was instrumental in the 1997 election victory and served in the cabinets of Tony Blair and Gordon Brown. From February 2025 he served as the British ambassador to the United States under Keir Starmer, but was dismissed seven months later over his ties to Jeffrey Epstein. After further revelations about his relationship with the late paedophile, revealed in the Epstein files, Mandelson resigned from the Labour Party and the House of Lords in February 2026. The Met Police have begun a criminal investigation into his alleged misconduct in public office.
