Former LIV Golf star rapidly closing in on PGA Tour card
Former LIV golfer, Laurie Canter, is on the brink of earning his PGA Tour card after his tied for second finish in Korea at the Genesis Championship
Laurie Canter is on the edge of earning his PGA Tour card after being one of the first players to join LIV when it was incepted in 2022. Just two events separate him and the Tour card for the 2026 season after his T-2 finish in Korea.
Canter, the 35-year old, sank a 100ft eagle putt on the 72nd hole at the Genesis Championship to finish tied for second. The second place finish moved him to the fifth spot of just ten positions for the PGA Tour card, and he climbed five places in the Race to Dubai standings.
“We play such a frustrating game and I feel like at the beginning of the year I felt like I had a lot of momentum and had it on a piece of string and since then it has been hard work," said Canter.
“I have felt like I am paddling upstream for six to eight months. I fell out of the PGA Tour card race this week so that was on my mind.
"I wanted to go to the playoffs and feel like I am not playing with a gun to my head totally, I can go out and embrace the chance to go and get one of those cards."
Canter played 20 times on LIV golf from 2022 to 2024 as he teed it up in all seven of the inaugural season's tournaments and then stepped in as a reserve for 11 events in 2023. He appeared in the first two events in 2024 and then has played on the DP World Tour since.
“There was a lot of tension, it is quite a tense golf course as well because there is a lot of trouble lurking that is a bit innocuous. The greens are really tricky.
“Like all golfers experience, (it was a release) of a lot of frustration. To hole that putt is such a hallelujah thing. If I do that again in my life I’ll be amazed. It was great.”
Canter climbed five places in the standings because of the T-2 finish at Woo Jeong Hills, in Korea. It also means that good results in Abu Dhabi next week could secure his card to the United States.

Canter will also play with European Ryder Cup stars Tommy Fleetwood, Ludvig Aberg, and Shane Lowry in the DP World Tour Championship from November 13-16 at Jumeirah Golf Estates. Joining them is career grand slam winner Rory McIlroy, Tyrrell Hatton, Matt Fitzpatrick, Rasmus Højgaard, Robert MacIntyre and Justin Rose.
