Toronto Blue Jays’ odds to replicate historic World Series feat in Game 6

The Toronto Blue Jays led off World Series Game 5 with back-to-back home runs, so what are the odds for them to do it again in Game 6 on Friday night?

The Toronto Blue Jays are one win away from their first World Series title since 1993, and their chances will be aided if they can replicate their historic start to Game 5.

To open Toronto’s Game 5 win, Davis Schneider and Vladimir Guerrero Jr hit back-to-back home runs off Los Angeles Dodgers starting pitcher Blake Snell, marking the first time a World Series game has begun in such fashion.

Schneider’s home run came on the very first pitch of the game, a 373-foot line drive over the left field wall that left Dodger Stadium in stunned silence. Two pitches later, World Series MVP favorite Guerrero Jr hooked a 394-foot shot over the same wall, giving Toronto a 2-0 lead.

In Game 6, the Blue Jays are expected to field George Springer, back from a side injury suffered in Game 3, in place of Schneider at the top of the lineup. He will be followed by Guerrero Jr.

If you’re wondering about the likelihood of Toronto starting Game 6 with back-to-back homers, we have you covered. Springer is +1900 to hit a home run in his first plate appearance of Game 6, while Guerrero Jr is +2000 to go yard in his.

Parlay those two selections together, and you get 419-to-1 odds for the Blue Jays to equal their Game 5 feat and hit back-to-back dingers in the first.

Unlike in Game 5, the Blue Jays won’t begin the game at the plate. Rather, as the away team, it will be Shohei Ohtani and the Dodgers leading off, facing Toronto starting pitcher Kevin Gausman.

Ohtani is priced at +750 to hit a home run in his first plate appearance of Game 6.

Springer, who injured himself swinging in the seventh inning of Game 3, is statistically one of the greatest leadoff hitters the MLB has ever seen.

The Toronto center fielder has 63 career leadoff home runs, the second-most of all time behind Rickey Henderson (81).

Springer has two career leadoff home runs in the postseason, per StatMuse. Guerrero Jr has 30 career home runs in the first inning, including three in this postseason.

Dodgers Game 6 starter Yoshinobu Yamamoto has allowed eight career first-inning home runs, including three this postseason.

Milwaukee Brewers leadoff hitter Jackson Chourio homered off Yamamoto on his first pitch of the game in Game 2 of the NLDS.
